Bohn Walk-In Cooler, Deep Freezer, Hisense Dehumidifier, and Samsung Fridge Not Cooling: A Scenario Guide

According to the U.S. Department of Energy (energy.gov), the recommended temperature is 37°F for a refrigerator and 0°F for a freezer. If the freezer is near 0°F but the fresh food section is 50°F+, the compressor is probably running. The cold air just isn't getting there.

Likely suspects:

  • Evaporator fan: if it's stalled, the freezer may still be cold near the coil, but the fridge won't get airflow.
  • Air damper: the door that controls cold air into the fridge can stick closed.
  • Defrost system: a failed heater, thermistor, or control board can cause frost blockage.
  • Thermistor or control: the fridge thinks it's colder than it is.
