Bohn refrigeration engineering team and manufacturing facility

About Bohn

Since 2003, we have been engineering dependable refrigeration equipment that keeps commercial and industrial operations running at their best.

Our Story

Bohn was founded with a straightforward mission: build refrigeration equipment that facility managers and engineers can depend on, year after year. Starting from a single manufacturing plant in Elkhart, Indiana, we have grown into a global operation with three production facilities, 12 regional service centers, and a team of over 450 professionals dedicated to the science and craft of thermal management.

Today, Bohn evaporators, condensers, and condensing units are installed in food processing plants, cold storage warehouses, supermarkets, pharmaceutical facilities, and commercial kitchens across 45+ countries. Our growth has been built on a simple principle: deliver what we promise, support what we sell, and continuously improve the efficiency and reliability of every product that carries the Bohn name.

Manufacturing and Quality Process

Bohn operates three manufacturing facilities with a combined annual capacity exceeding 6,000 units. Our production process follows ISO 9001-certified quality management procedures, with every evaporator and condenser coil undergoing individual leak testing at 1.5x design pressure before shipment.

Coil assemblies are fabricated using copper tubes mechanically expanded into aluminum fins, achieving thermal contact resistance below 0.05 K/W per joint. Corrosion protection options include Heresite phenolic coating (rated for 3,000+ hours salt spray per ASTM B117), Blygold epoxy coating for coastal and chemical environments, and stainless steel construction for washdown applications.

Final assembly testing includes refrigerant circuit evacuation to below 500 microns (67 Pa), standing vacuum verification for 30 minutes, and electrical safety testing per UL 207 and UL 1995 standards. Condensing units are factory-charged and run-tested at rated conditions, with measured performance data recorded and traceable to individual serial numbers.

This testing protocol adds approximately 45 minutes per unit compared to industry-standard sampling-based QC, but it eliminates field failures caused by manufacturing defects, which in our experience account for the majority of warranty claims industry-wide during the first year of operation.
